Notary Public services are available within the Town Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
What you need to know before you come in
If you need to have a document notarized, you must appear in person with proper identification – you cannot send someone else in for you.
Please note that you must bring identification with your photograph and signature on it so that we may verify your identity. Examples of identification that meets those criteria are as follows:
- Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s I.D. Card
- Permanent Resident Cards (“green cards”)
- Federal, State, County, or local government ID
Notary Public services are available free of charge for Town of Henrietta residents. For non-residents, there is a $2.00 fee per signature.
Can I come during lunch?
We are often asked whether a Notary Public will be available during the lunch hours and the answer is yes. All of our Town Clerk’s Office employees are duly sworn and commissioned Notary Publics in the State of New York and while we do each take a lunch break, we stagger our lunch breaks so that someone will always be here during regular office hours.
Certified Copies of Documents
A frequent request is to have us “notarize” copies of documents and thereby certifying the copy. However, Notary Publics in New York State are not authorized to certify that a copy of a document is a “true copy” of the original. As an alternative, we are able to notarize your signature on a statement written by yourself in which you certify the accuracy of the copy. However, we are not legal professionals and we are unable to provide legal advice, so if you need a certified copy of a document, you should always consult with the organization or business receiving the document for detailed instructions specific to the State of New York.
