COVID-19 Pandemic Status

Unfortunately, it appears that COVID-19 is here with us long term. The Town has created a comprehensive COVID-19 (and/or other airborne pandemic) response policy that comprises three "Condition Levels" based on the current community health statistics in the area. The three condition levels are:

• Condition Green - Low Infection Rates - masks and social distancing optional
• Condition Yellow - Medium Infection Rates - social distancing and masks or vaccines required
• Condition Red - High Infection Rates - masks and social distancing required

The goal of the policies of the three level response is to balance the need for safety for our employees and residents with the need to continue with our daily life. After more than two-years' of being in a pandemic, we are all suffering from pandemic fatigue. However, when precautions are relaxed during times of high infection and transmission, the result is a far greater number of employees and residents infected and, if the antigen is an aggressive strain, an increased risk in serious health repercussions, including the potential for death. 

The current condition level will be noted on the doorways to the Town facilities through use of the icons seen below, color coded to match the condition level and with an icon representing the primary masking requirement. In addition, an icon appearing in the upper right hand corner of the web page will indicate the current condition level and take you to the corresponding policy in place for that condition.

Determining the Current Condition Level

The Town is currently using the CDC's recommended method for determining the current community condition level based on the following three indicators:

• Weekly new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population is above 200 
• Weekly new hospital admissions for COVID-19 cases is above 10
• The current percent of ICU beds used for COVID-19 cases is above 10%

Using those indicators, the current condition is determined by:

• Condition Green: all three indicators are below their respective thresholds
• Condition Yellow: a single one of the three indicators is above their respective thresholds
• Condition Red: two or more indicators are above their respective thresholds or one indicator is more than double its threshold

We will continue to evaluate the method used to determine the current community condition level to see if there is an improved method, and if we make a change, we will note the changes here.
