Freedom of Information Law

You Have a Right to See Public Records

The amended Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), which took effect on January 1, 1978, gives you the right of access to many public records.

In compliance with FOIL, the Town of Henrietta provides public access to existing Town records. Records may be inspected, picked up in person, and/or mailed to applicant via USPS or email.  Requests should be made in writing to the Town's Records Access Officers, Rebecca B. Wiesner and Heather Voss, using the link below.

On this portal, you can submit FOIL requests, create an account if you are a frequent requester, check for updates and receive completed requests. Should you have any questions, please contact Heather Voss at hvoss@henrietta.org or (585) 359-7040.

**Please note, police or court records need to be requested from either the Monroe County Sheriff's Office or the Henrietta Town Court directly.

Zoning Compliance Letters

If you would like to request a zoning compliance letter, please contact the Building Department directly at either building@henrietta.org or (585) 359-7060.

Timeframe

The Freedom of Information Law requires that we respond to a request within five (5) business days of receipt of a request.  If your request is approved, we will get that information to you as soon as possible depending upon the volume of documents requested and time involved locating the material, but it will be within twenty (20) business days from the approval, unless we notify you otherwise.

If any portion of the request is denied, you will be informed of the reason in writing and provided with the contact information to whom an appeal should be directed.

Fee Schedule

Please note that there is an associated fee to produce copies of records, as listed below. Additional fees may apply in connection with the actual cost to produce a record, in accordance with New York Freedom of Information Law. All fees must be paid in full prior to release of records. Please note that there is no fee associated with obtaining records electronically.
