Sewer, Drainage and Sidewalks

The Director of Drainage, Sewer & Sidewalks oversees the operations of Storm Water Drainage, Sanitary Sewer and Sidewalk Departments and is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Drainage
The Drainage Department responds to flooding of public entities, provides advice on backyard drainage issues, and performs routine maintenance of creeks, ponds and other drainage ways. Through innovative construction technology and extensive review, the department installs erosion control systems as necessary while preserving natural surroundings.

Sidewalks
The Sidewalk Department is responsible for the repair, replacement, and snow removal of 40 miles of public sidewalks. This ensures safe pedestrian traffic and helps make Henrietta a pedestrian friendly town. Also, during our winter months, we maintain the school crosswalks for safe and efficient travel of students whom walk to school.

Sanitary Sewer
With the use of state of the art equipment and a dedicated field staff, the Sewer Department provides maintenance and improvements to over 200 miles of sanitary sewer main lines, 4,600 manholes and 18 pump stations. To ensure the most efficient maintenance schedule, there is an annual televising program in place. Through this process, a specially designed camera is utilized to televise the internal structure of sewer pipes and help locate potential problems before a sewer main backup is caused.

Quick Fact: If you were to lay Henrietta's sewer pipes end to end, they would span a distance from Henrietta, NY to Harrisburg, PA!

While we can assist with the best advice possible, property owners are responsible for drainage issues on private property and sewer lines going from houses (and businesses) to the main, including the connection at the main.

The Sewer Department also manages over 1,200 Commercial and Industrial Sanitary Sewer accounts.  For more information on sewer billing please visit our sewer billing site here.
