• Recipient of the "Henrietta Architectural Heritage Award - Centennial Farm Award 2005" - Donald & Isabelle Yost - for the 100th Anniversary of Smith/Yost Family's ownership of this bountiful farm and Greek revival homestead and contributions to the agricultural heritage of Henrietta.

Self-sustaining farms were the very basis our town was founded upon. Farms have written much of our history and continue to be a factor in economic growth. In the early 1800s pioneers left their worn out New England farms, came here and settled on the rich fertile soil of the Genesee Valley. Agriculture became the prominent occupation for almost 150 years. Today it is unusual to find a farm still being operated by the same family a century later.

Henrietta's Centennial Farm Program was developed by the Historic Site Committee in 2005 to honor those farms and families who have contributed to preserving Henrietta's agricultural resources and to encourage the continued use of these farms for future generations. Each stands as recognition of the strength, courage, and perseverance of the families who have worked their land for multiple generations despite the economic challenges of modern agriculture. The Henrietta Centennial Farm Program encourages residents to save and recognize farms that have contributed to Henrietta's agricultural heritage for 100 years or more. By honoring centennial farms, our goal is to not only promote agricultural awareness but to gain a deeper understanding of our unique agricultural heritage.

The Historic Site Committee presented the first award to Donald and Isabelle Yost, whose families have owned the Brooks Road farm since 1905. Horses now replace dairy cows. Hay replaces the corn, cabbage, oats, and wheat crops of old, but with 80 acres of tillable land and over 40 horses occupying a new barn built a few years ago, the farm is still growing.
