Volunteer Opportunity: Tinker Homestead & Farmstead Museum Docent

Position: Part-time Volunteer

Commitment: Varies per person, at least 6 open houses per year

Location: In-person

 

Description:

We are seeking individuals who are interested in joining the Tinker Team to expand our group of existing museum docents. The ideal candidates should be friendly, informative, engaging, and feel comfortable supervising a room in a museum while guests are walking about.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide museum guests with accurate historical information regarding the Tinker Homestead, late 19th century agricultural practices, and the history of cobblestone structures in western New York
  • Assist with staffing the museum during events, summer visiting hours, open houses, and scheduled school visits
  • Support collections care efforts through various means- may include research, inventory assessments, storage assessments, and assisting with exhibit design

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous knowledge of American History preferred, we do provide training
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team environment.
