Point of Dispensing (POD) information

WHAT IF OUR RESIDENTS WERE SUBJECT TO A PANDEMIC FLU OUTBREAK OR BIOTERROIST ATTACK AND REQUIRED MEDICATION TO BE DISTRIBUTED IN A MATTER OF DAYS FOR SURVIVAL?

The Town of Henrietta as well as other towns in Monroe County is working with officials at the Monroe County Health Department to create a Public Emergency Health Plan in response to a potential pandemic or bioterrorism event requiring dispensing of medications to the town’s 43,000 residents. In such an event the Town of Henrietta’s two POD (Point of Dispensing) sites would be opened to dispense oral medication or administering vaccinations to a large number of residents in a short time frame. The two sites are the Rush-Henrietta Senior High School at 1799 Lehigh Station Road and the Dome Arena 2695 East Henrietta Road.

It is estimated that these POD sites would require 150 – 160 volunteers per 12 hour shift to effectively dispense the medication. Some scenarios require all residents to receive medication within 48 hours. We are looking for volunteers to staff these sites should it be necessary to activate them during a public health emergency. Residents with skills in security, medical, mental health, safety, traffic control, food service, clerical, teaching, CDL licensed drivers and management would staff these sites. Training is provided and exercises would be conducted to test our plan.

We all hope that this type of event never happens, however the possibility is real and we all need to be prepared. Information about POD operation times, how to get to the POD site and family medical history to bring with you will be made available thru the Emergency Broadcast System to all residents about the event. Cooperation and patience will be key to everyone receiving medications in a timely manner.

To volunteer for this important program please fill out the form below and it will be submitted to the Town’s POD liaison officer. In turn, the town will contact you about meeting to discuss your role, responsibilities and training.
