This early 1830s Greek Revival style farmhouse, located on the southwest corner of present day Erie Station and Middle Roads, was built by the Sherman family. The 1902 map of Henrietta calls this intersection Sherman Corners. The two story farmhouse has wood clapboard siding and sits on a fieldstone foundation both of which are consistent with the construction methods of the early 1800’s.

The Historic Site Committee's research has found the original purchase of the 29 acres at the Northeast corner of lot 26 in the 4th range was made by Caleb Sherman from Cornelius Charles Six on the 25th of April 1820.

Deed records show Jarvis Sherman purchased this property from his father Caleb July 1st, 1832.

In “Henrietta Heritage”  Eleanor Kalsbeck states “Jarvis Sherman and Richard Wilkins built the first frame hotel in the east village”. Jarvis Sherman ran a meat market in the commercial block of West Henrietta. From original Town Board meeting minutes Jarvis Sherman received 204 of the 320 votes cast for Henrietta Town Supervisor in 1858. At that time town officers were elected each year. He was appointed postmaster for West Henrietta on March 20th, 1861.

The Sherman family is found at this location on historical maps and tax records of Henrietta from 1852-1885. Unfortunately earlier records are not available.
